More About Medical Billing & Coding
As a Medical Billing & Coder, you will be responsible for ensuring health information data is organized and managed, typically with the use of a computer. You will ensure the data maintained is accurate, accessible and secure in all version of the file. You will use various classification systems to code and categorize a patient’s information for the purpose of insurance reimbursement, database registry, and tracking of their medical and treatment history. Some duties may include:
- Reviewing patient’s medical information for pre existing conditions for coding purposes
- Assign the correct codes to diagnoses and procedures for patient care, population statistics, and billing
- Work as a go-between for the healthcare provider and billing office
- Track patient outcomes for quality assessments
- Use classification software to assign the proper clinical codes for insurance purposes
- Maintain confidentiality of patient’s records
